STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's College Men's Basketball team has been selected to finish second in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference preseason poll, which is voted on by conference head coaches.
The Monks collected 62 points in the poll behind top choice Albertus Magnus College, the 2009-10 GNAC Champion. St. Joe's returns seven players and three starters from a team that went 14-4 in conference play and 19-7 overall last season.
The 2009 GNAC Champion Monks captured the #3 seed in the 2010 GNAC playoffs, but their bid to defend the title fell short with a loss to #6 Lasell in the quarterfinals at the Alfond Center last winter.
Rounding out the top eight in the conference preseason poll are Norwich (61), Johnson & Wales (60), Emerson (40), Rivier (38), Mount Ida (350 and Emmanuel (33).
Saint Joseph's will play at Southern Maine on Sunday night at 7:30 PM.
