Monks Ranked Second in Initial Maine Men’s Basketball Poll

STANDISH, ME – The first Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association weekly poll has been announced and Saint Joseph's College (3-0) is ranked second behind Bowdoin College.

The Monks received 31 points in the poll, which is voted on by head coaches from the 13 NCAA DIII and NAIA men's basketball programs across the state. Bowdoin tallied 40 total points and eight first-place votes.

Southern Maine (17 pts), Husson (14 pts) and Bates (9 pts) round out the top five vote-getters, while Maine-Farmington and Thomas College also received votes.

St. Joe's is off to a 3-0 start with victories over a trio of in-state rivals. The Monks bested University of New England in the season opener and went on to beat Farmington and USM in a pair of close contests.

Through the three games, the Monks are shooting 50.3% (88-175) from the field, 50% (23-46) from beyond the arc and 65.5% (36-55) from the free throw line with 78.3 points and 36.0 rebound per game averages.

Saint Joseph's will play at Husson University tonight at 7:00PM and host Emerson College in the 2010-11 conference opener on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
