Men's Basketball Players Collect Weekly Honor Roll Awards

STANDISH, ME – A pair of Saint Joseph's Men's Basketball players have garnered weekly honor roll accolades.

SJC freshman guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, MA) has been listed on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Weekly Honor Rolls for his play last week.

Medeiros averaged 8.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in three games for the Monks last week. The rookie guard drained four three-pointers to account for a career-high 12 points in a win over Norwich on January 11th and shot 63.6% (7-11) from beyond the arc for the week.

In 12 games as a rookie, Medeiros is averaging 6.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 53.6% (15-28) from three-point range and 45.1% (23-51) from the floor. He currently leads all Maine players in three-point efficiency.

Zach O'Brien '12 (Schenectady, NY) gains GNAC Weekly Honor Roll honors after averaging 22 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals in three contests last week. The junior guard shot 53.3% (16-30) from the field and 92.3% (12-13) from the charity stripe in the team's three GNAC victories.

Through 13 games, O'Brien leads the Monks in scoring (16.4 PPG), rebounding (4.8 RPG) and assists (4.7 APG). He currently leads the State of Maine in free throw percentage (88.2%, 30-34) and ranks second in assists.
