Petzy & Medeiros Honor Roll Worthy

STANDISH, ME – Two SJC men's basketball players have been listed on weekly honor rolls. Freshman guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, MA) has been listed on the GNAC and MMBCWA honor rolls and junior guard Chris Petzy (Kensington, NH) has garnered MMBCWA honors.

Medeiros gains Great Northeast Athletic Conference and Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Honor Roll mention after averaging 10.0 PPG and shooting 55% (5-9) from beyond the arc in a 1-1 week for the Monks. The freshman sharpshooter drained three of five long-distance shots and scored 11 points in a losing effort to Bates on Wednesday.

Petzy averaged 18.0 PPG and shot 56% (14-25) overall and 50% (6-12) from three-point distance last week for Saint Joseph's. The junior guard netted 19 points and went 5-7 from downtown in a win over Mount Ida on Saturday.

Through 17 games, Medeiros is averaging 7.6 points per contest. One of the Monks' first players off the bench, he leads the Royal Blue with a 51% (25-49) success rate from downtown and has contributed 31 rebounds and 26 assists. Medeiros led all DIII and NAIA players in the State of Maine in three-point accuracy through last week's contests.

Petzy ranks second on the team in both scoring (15.4 PPG) and free throw percentage (81.4%, 57-70) and fourth in three-point percentage (41.6%, 37-89) this season. In 70 career games he has scored 767 points with 194 rebounds and 72 assists. Through games played last week, Petzy ranked fifth in the state in FT% and seventh in scoring average.

Included in the MMBCWA weekly report is a poll voted upon by the state's head coaches. Saint Joseph's received one first-place vote and 17 total points and ranked fifth as of January 24th.

Saint Joseph's, 12-5 overall and 9-1 in GNAC play, will host Albertus Magnus College on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
