O'Brien Named MMBCWA Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME – The 10th Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Weekly Report has been distributed and SJC junior guard Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY) has earned Player of the Week honors.

O'Brien averaged 27.5 points, four rebounds and four assists and shot 58.3% (21-36) from the field in a 1-1 week for Saint Joseph's. He netted 27 in a loss to Johnson & Wales on Tuesday and 28 in an overtime win over Lasell on Saturday.

Through 23 games for the 16-7 Monks, O'Brien leads the squad in scoring (17.0 PPG), rebounds (4.5 RPG), assists (4.2 APG), field goals made (153), field goals attempted (313) and field goal percentage (48.9%). He is also tied for the team lead with 28 steals.

The MMBCWA top weekly honor is the first of O'Brien's career.

Saint Joseph's, currently the top team in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a 13-3 in-league record, will face Rivier College tonight in Nashua and Mount Ida College on Saturday before entering the conference playoffs, which begin with a quarterfinal round next week.
