STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College will host its first-ever home GNAC Basketball playoff doubleheader on Tuesday evening at the Harold Alfond Center. The women will face Emerson College at 5:30 PM and the men will follow with a 7:30 PM tip-off versus Mount Ida College.

The SJC women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 17-8 overall record and played to a 9-3 mark in conference contests this winter. The Monks finished third in the GNAC standings and will host a GNAC tournament tilt for the first time in four years as a league member. Emerson (9-16, 7-5 GNAC) is the #6 seed in the 2011 GNAC playoffs.

Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 has posted a 355-137 (.722) record in nearly 18 full seasons as the SJC Women's Basketball clipboard carrier. Coach McDevitt has guided the Royal Blue to 12 twenty-win seasons, seven conference crowns and seven national tournament appearances.

The men's basketball team captured the top seed in the GNAC Tournament after posting a 15-3 record in conference play and an 18-7 mark overall. The Monks, GNAC Champions in 2009, have now earned the right to host a conference tournament contest in three consecutive seasons, but this year marks the first time the team has collected the #1 seed. Mount Ida (9-16, 6-12 GNAC) is the #8 seed in the GNAC Tournament.

Eighth-year Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99 carries a 137-79 (.634) career record into tournament play and ranks as the second most successful coach in program history.

Both teams hope the home-court advantage continues throughout the playoffs as the programs have combined to post a 24-3 mark at the Alfond Center this season. The men's team is undefeated at home and has not suffered a regular-season conference setback at the Alfond since January 18th, 2010, a span of 20 GNAC tilts.

The combined 2010-11 win total for the SJC hoops programs is the most since the men and women tallied 35 wins during the 2002-03 campaign. The men's team advanced to the NCAA DIII Tournament for the first time in program history that season.

The basketball programs have not tallied at least 17 wins apiece since the 2001-02 season, when the women went 23-3 and the men posted a 15-10 mark. Both programs have historically been among the most successful in the region over the past 30 years, a span during which the two teams have combined to notch 30 twenty-win seasons (16 men, 14 women).
