Monks Ranked as Top Maine Team, O'Brien Garners Honor Roll Mention

STANDISH, ME – SJC senior guard Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, N.Y.) has been listed on the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Weekly Honor Roll for the second consecutive week and the third time overall this winter.

O'Brien averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 conference week for the Monks and registered 23 points and seven rebounds while shooting 9-13 from the field in a win over Lasell last Tuesday. He also collected Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Honor Roll mention for his efforts. 

St. Joe's returns to the top slot in the MMBCWA Weekly Poll after a one-week hiatus. The Monks received eight first-place votes and 41 total points and sit ahead of Bowdoin College (31 pts.), Bates College (31), Maine-Farmington (10), and Thomas College (10).

Through 14 games, O'Brien leads the Monks in scoring (16.7 PPG), minutes (34.0 MPG) and free throws made (48) and is tied for the team lead in steals (18). The four-year starter has amassed 1,301 points, 434 rebounds, 317 assists and 94 steals in 93 career contests and currently ranks 15th on the Monks' all-time scoring list.

Saint Joseph's (10-4, 6-2 GNAC) will play at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at 3:00 PM in a rematch of the 2011 GNAC Championship.
