Falcons Clip Monks, 76-66

NEW HAVEN, CT – Albertus Magnus College (21-3, 15-2 GNAC) rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Saint Joseph's (15-9, 10-7 GNAC), 76-66, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball action on Thursday night. Junior guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) paced the Monks with 26 points after shooting 5-8 from three-point distance and 9-9 from the free-throw line in a losing bid.

The Falcons opened the contest with a 6-0 run in the first 1:40 before the Falcons found themselves down 11-9 and then 14-11 after three consecutive free-throws by Matthew Medeiros. After opening the game with the first six points, the Falcons were held without a bucket for a span of four minutes. Albertus climbed back to tie the game at 22 before the Monks went on a 10-1 run to jump out to a 32-23 lead, their largest of the contest.

The Monks held a five-point advantage (35-30) at the break before the Falcons came out in the second half to shoot 61.5% from the floor, including a 5-of-9 clip from behind the arc.

Saint Joseph's College committed 26 turnovers in the contest as the Falcons scored 21 points off those miscues. The final score of the night, which was a 10-point advantage for the Falcons, was their largest lead of the contest.

For the Monks, sophomore Zach Blodgett (Glenburn, Maine) came off the bench to tally 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals and freshman Craig Luschenat (Boston, Mass.) netted 12 in a losing effort.

For the Falcons, senior Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) scored a career-high 34 points, including his 1,000th career-point, in the victory. Junior Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) came off to score 15 points and pull down six boards and Jefferson Lora (Bronx, N.Y.) had a solid outing with seven steals, two blocked shots and nine rebounds.
