Catholic Shoots Past Saint Joseph’s, 87-61

WASHINGTON, DC – Tourney-host Catholic University (6-5) trumped Saint Joseph's College (4-6), 87-61, in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn College Park Classic Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Saint Joseph's was led by Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) and Jerome Diggs (Washington, D.C.) with 13 points apiece while James Philbrook (Auburn, Maine) and Zach Blodgett (Glenburn, Maine) both netted 10 points and Nicholas Jobin (Westbrook, Maine) added seven points and a game-high eight rebounds in the loss.

Steve Limberiou was 8-11 from three-point distance – including a stretch of six straight in the second half - and netted 30 points for the Cardinals and Bryson Fonville poured in 24 points off a 4-5 effort from downtown in the consolation victory. Catholic shot 57.7% from both the field (30-52) and three-point distance (15-26) on the afternoon.

The Cardinals came out strong from the outset, as Fonville nailed two early shots from downtown, and when Limberiou drained his only first-period trey, the hosts had a 21-14 lead. Fonville took a pass from Limberiou and sank another triple from the left corner with 2:24 to go before halftime, and Catholic went into recess leading 41-24.

Limberiou began his six-shooter streak with a three from just to the left of the top of the key with 14:27 to play and put the Cards on top, 50-33. His next five all came from long distance on the left wing. He nailed them at 13:06, 12:34, 11:59, 11:17 and 10:49, with the final dagger lifting CUA to a 30-point advantage.
