2014-15 Men's Basketball Schedule Released

STANDISH, Maine – The 2014-15 Saint Joseph's College men's basketball schedule has been announced. The Monks will play a full slate of 25 games this winter, including 18 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilts and 12 home contests.

The 2014-15 season, which will be the 12th for Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99, begins with a home game versus Bates College on Tuesday, November 18th starting at 7:00 PM.

The annual Costello Cup match-up with University of Southern Maine will be played in Gorham as part of a doubleheader with the women's teams at 7:30 PM on Sunday, November 30th. Presented annually to the winner of the contest between the rivals, the Costello Cup honors the late Dr. Richard "Doc" Costello, former USM Athletic Director and long-time basketball coach. Saint Joseph's owns a 15-10 record in the history of the Costello Cup series and seeks to regain possession of the prized trophy after suffering a 65-60 loss at the hands of the Huskies last season.

The Monks open GNAC play with a home game versus Lasell College on Tuesday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM. Later that month, Saint Joseph's treks to California where the Monks will face Pomona-Pitzer College and Occidental College during a five-day west coast swing.

St. Joe's kicks off the 2015 calendar year at home with a GNAC game against Mount Ida College on January 6th at 7:00 PM. The Monks battle Albertus Magnus College in a rematch of the 2014 GNAC Championship game in New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday, January 10th and take on the Falcons again 14 days later at the Harold Alfond Center.

The 2015 GNAC Tournament begins with a quarterfinal round on February 24th and continues with a pair of semifinal games on February 26th. The championship will be played on Saturday, February 28th and the NCAA DIII Tournament starts on March 5th.

Saint Joseph's posted an 18-10 overall record with a 15-3 mark in GNAC play last season under Sanicola's watch and advanced to the conference championship contest for the third time in seven years with tourney wins over Suffolk University and Johnson & Wales University. The 2013-14 season came to a close with a title game loss to Albertus Magnus – a team that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 several weeks later.
