Bates Shoots Past Saint Joseph's, 68-58

STANDISH, Maine – Bates College (6-3) defeated Saint Joseph's College (4-5), 68-58, in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Harold Alfond Center on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The score was tight for the better part of the first half as Bates held a 17-15 edge at the 6:58 mark, but the Bobcats managed to outscore the Monks by a 21-10 margin – with the help of 5-7 three-point shooting effort - over the following six minutes and led by 13 (38-25) heading into intermission.

Saint Joseph's cut the deficit down to 44-38 after sophomore Jae Johns (Long Island, N.Y.) made back-to-back layups, the latter coming at the 13:51 mark, but Bates rattled off a 22-8 offensive outburst over the next nine minutes of play to all but put the game out of reach.

The Monks scored the last 12 points of the contest, including a buzzer-beater made from half-court by sophomore Ben Malloy (Standish, Maine), to account for the 68-58 final.
