STANDISH, Maine – The 2017 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball postseason accolades have been released and Saint Joseph's College sophomore forward Marc Corey (Londonderry, N.H.) has garnered Second Team All-Conference honors.
Corey claims the first GNAC award of his career after averaging 10.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game during his sophomore campaign. The second-year starter paced the Monks in scoring, points (269), three-pointers made (39), and three-point percentage (40.2%) and was second on the squad in field goals made (93), rebounds (134) and rebounds average, assists (78), and steals (21).
He completed the 2016-17 season ranked eighth in the conference in three-point success, ninth in assists, 10th in defensive rebounds (100), and 12th in rebounding average.
Under the watch of 14th-year Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99 this winter, the Monks posted a 13-13 overall record with a 10-8 mark in GNAC play en route to earning the #5 seed in the GNAC Tournament. In a conference quarterfinal on February 21st, Saint Joseph's traveled to Newton, Massachusetts where the Monks took on #4 Mount Ida College and suffered a hard-fought 91-83 loss at the hands of the Mustangs.
Despite the early postseason exit, the future appears to be bright for a Monks team that posted wins over two of the top teams in the conference – Albertus Magnus and Lasell – this year and loses just two seniors in Andrew Ruffen (Salem, N.H.) and John Crawley (Fitchburg, Mass.).
