Late Shot Sinks Monks in GNAC Action, 64-63

PROVIDENCE, RI – Randall Ferdinand's put back with seven seconds remaining propelled the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team to victory on Thursday. The Wildcats pulled out a 64-63 victory over Saint Joseph's College.

Statistical Leaders:
Brian Hogan-Gary (JWU): 19 points, 10 rebounds
Randall Ferdinand (JWU): 13 points
Jack Casale (SJC): 18 points, 9 rebounds

Of Note:
An pair of Ian Mileikis free throws put the Monks ahead, 61-53, with 4:06 left. The Wildcats fought back but Mileikis nailed two more free throws to extend SJC's lead to 63-60 with 27 seconds remaining. 

Justin Bullock made a layup then forced a turnover to give JWU the ball back down 63-62. His layup with nine seconds missed the mark, but Ferdinand was there for the put back. The Monks had a chance to tie the game with three seconds, but Mileikis missed a free throw.  

Brian Hogan-Gary gave JWU a 24-22 lead with 6:12 left in the first half, but that would be the Wildcats' last points of the half as the Monks took a 30-24 advantage into the locker room.

The Wildcats won the game despite shooting 35.9 percent from the floor – their lowest rate in a victory this season. Saint Joseph's hit 46.2 percent and had a 46-28 rebounding advantage. JWU got 19 points off 24 Monks' turnovers.

Hogan-Gary had game highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the year. Ferdinand, Jarell Lawson and Nate Patenaude each had 13 points.

Jack Casale came off the bench for SJC to score a team-high 18 points, including four three-pointers, as well as nine rebounds. Aaron Hall was next with 12 points and Mileikis added 10   

Up Next:
The Monks host GNAC-rival Emmanuel College Saturday at 1:00 PM while the Wildcats play their second home game in a row when they host Rivier at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
