Richardson-Newton Becomes 39th Member of SJC 1,000-Point Club

STANDISH, Maine – Senior forward Quinn Richardson-Newton (Saco, Maine) became the 39th player in the 47-year history of the Saint Joseph's College men's basketball program to reach the 1,000-point mark in an 84-68 victory over Norwich University at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

Entering the game nine points shy of the milestone, Richardson-Newton surpassed the 1,000-point plateau when he connected on a 15-foot jumper at the 11:41 mark of the first half. He finished the game with 12 points on a 6-13 shooting performance.

Junior guard Jack Hostetler (Somers, Conn.) was credited with an assist on Richardson-Newton's landmark field goal.

With the 2017-18 campaign coming to a close following a 69-65 conference tournament setback at the hands of Suffolk University on Tuesday, Richardson-Newton capped his college career with 1,007 points in 102 games, all starts.

Over four seasons, Richardson-Newton shot 45.6% (374-820) from the field and 74.2% (259-349) from the free-throw line with 533 rebounds, 167 assists, 65 steals, and 14 blocked shots. He averaged 9.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest and completed his career among the Monks' all-time leaders in free throws made and rebounds.

He is the 11th player to join the SJC 1,000-Point Club during the tenure of Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99, who just completed his 15th year at the helm for the Monks. Richardson-Newton joins former teammate Steve Simonds '15 on the exclusive list of Saint Joseph's players who have reached the prestigious plateau.
