STANDISH, Maine – The first Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly honors of the 2018-19 season have been announced and Saint Joseph's College sophomore guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the MMBCWA Player of the Week.
Through four games this season, Casale is averaging 24.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 44.4% (32-72) from the field, 41.9% (13-31) from three-point distance, and 80.0% (20-25) from the free throw line.
Casale opened his sophomore campaign by scoring a career-high 27 points with nine rebounds and four assists in a 99-91 setback at Plymouth State on Friday, November 9th. He scored 25 points with four caroms and eight assists in an 88-79 victory over Thomas on November 13th and notched an impressive double-double with 24 points and 13 boards – along with four assists and four steals – in a narrow loss (88-83) to Tufts three days later.
Casale capped the first reporting period of the year by netting 21 points with eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals in an 88-70 triumph over Anna Maria on November 17th.
For Casale, the MMBCWA Player of the Week honor is a career first. The 2018 MMBCWA Rookie of the Year was twice named as the Rookie of the Week last winter.
