Berry Joins 1,000-Point Club

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College men's basketball senior guard Darian Berry (Rochester, N.H.) joined the Monks' 1,000-Point Club when he scored 21 points in a 104-85 win over Albertus Magnus College at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday, January 10th.

Berry, the 41st member of the men's basketball 1,000-Point Club, entered the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest 18 points shy of the milestone and hit the four-digit mark when he converted a layup with 4:07 remaining in the second half. Freshman forward David Keohan (West Newfield, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play.

Berry finished the game with 21 points on an 8-for-11 shooting performance from the floor.

Through 78 career games (54 starts), Berry has scored 1,033 points while shooting 46.3% (374-807) from the field, 39.6% (169-427) from three-point distance, and 73.9% (116-157) from the FT line with 323 rebounds, 156 assists, and 61 steals.

Berry, who played in just 10 games his sophomore year after suffering an injury, reached the 1,000-point mark in just 76 games, the fewest tilts required to reach the milestone by an SJC player since Zach O'Brien '12 hit 1,000 in 75 contests.

So far this winter, Berry is averaging 18.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 51.2% (111-217) from the floor, 44.2% (42-95) from downtown, and 74.5% (35-47) from the free-throw line.

He is the 13th player to join the SJC 1,000-Point Club during the tenure of Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99, who is currently in his 16th year at the helm for the Monks. Berry joins classmate Ian Mileikis (Auburn, Maine), who reached the milestone earlier this season in a win over UMaine-Farmington on December 13th, in the exclusive club.

Mileikis and Berry are the 10th pair of teammates to reach the 1,000-point mark during the same season and first to do so since Matt Medeiros '14 and Nich Jobin '14 accomplished the feat during the 2013-14 campaign.
