Monks Earn #6 Seed, Set to Play at Johnson & Wales in Quarterfinal on Tuesday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Albertus, Suffolk, JWU, Emmanuel set
to host GNAC Quarterfinals Tuesday night

WINTHROP, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College earned a hard-fought 93-87 home victory on Saturday afternoon over Suffolk University to propel the Falcons to the top seed in next week's GNAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which tips off this Tuesday night with quarterfinal contests.

Top-seeded Albertus will now get set to host eighth-seeded Lasell College on Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM. Be sure to catch all of the tournament action live on thegnac.tv or watch on one of our four custom digital streaming apps (broadcasts are produced by host institutions).

Suffolk, which had the opportunity to wrap up the No. 1 seed on Saturday, slipped to the No. 2 seed and will now welcome seventh-seeded University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Tuesday at 7:00 PM, as head coach Jim Calhoun's Blue Jays clinched their tournament spot with a Saturday victory over Regis College to reach the GNAC postseason in its inaugural season as a program.

Johnson & Wales University mathematically could have ended up on the road as the No. 5 seed entering Saturday's regular-season finale, but instead earned an impressive 75-71 road win over Emmanuel College to capture the third seed. With the setback, Emmanuel will now host on Tuesday as the fourth seed.

JWU will take on sixth-seeded Saint Joseph's College of Maine (7:00 PM) in Tuesday's quarterfinals, while fifth-seeded Colby-Sawyer will travel to Emmanuel (7:30 PM).

There is no reseeding in the GNAC Tournament, with the semifinal contests scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21 and the league championship game slated for Saturday, Feb. 23. The conference champion will receive the GNAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
