STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College (2-7 NAC, 4-12 overall),
as the #8 seed, will travel to Vermont on Saturday to take on
top-seeded Castleton State in a conference quarterfinal
contest.
The Monks earned the playoff berth as a first-year member of the
conference. 2009 is the second season of varsity lacrosse at St.
Joe's.
Castleton State College secured the top seed in the
upcoming North Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse tournament after
finishing regular season play with a perfect 9-0 mark. The
Spartans, who gave five-time defending champion Mount Ida College
their first ever NAC conference loss earlier this season, completed
the regular season docket with a 9-5 overall record.
Second seed Mount Ida (8-1 NAC, 10-6) will welcome seventh seed
Husson (3-6 NAC, 4-8). The Eagles advance to the NAC tournament in
their first year as a varsity program. Sixth seed Thomas (3-6 NAC,
4-6 overall) will travel to third seed Maine Maritime (7-2 NAC,
7-3) while fourth seed Johnson St. (6-3 NAC, 6-4) will host fifth
seed Emerson (5-4, 7-5) in quarterfinal action Saturday.
Quarterfinal games will be played Saturday, April 25 at the higher
seed. Quarterfinal winners will meet in a semifinal contest on
Wednesday, April 29 at the higher seed. Semifinal winners will meet
Saturday, May 2 at the highest remaining seed. Game times are
subject to change. The top eight teams qualify for the NAC
Championship. Predetermined tie breaking procedures were used to
seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.
