Dolphins Top Monks, 10-4

BROOKLYN, NY - Saint Joseph's fell to 1-1 with a 10-4 loss to Mount St. Vincent (2-0) on Sunday evening. Dylan Chase '13 (West Newbury, MA) and Paul Dolewa '12 (Saco, ME) tallied two goals apiece for the Monks in the losing effort.

Spencer Hunt '13 (Jeffersonville, VT) dealt a pair of assists, while Benson Pasquarello '12 (Kennebunk, ME) and Chase added a helper each in the loss. Christopher Driscoll '13 (Saco, ME) made his first collegiate start in goal for the Royal Blue and played well, with 16 saves and 4 groundballs, and Elliot LaMarre '11 (Raymond, ME) continued his face-off dominance by winning 11 of 15 attempts in the circle.

Dan Cohen paced the hosts with 5 goals and Cavan Valance added 3 goals and 2 assists for the Dolphins.

The Monks collected 50 groundballs in defeat, with Albert Comins '13 (Newburyport, MA) collecting 6 to pace the Royal Blue. Chase, Kyle Joseph '10 (Oakland, ME) and Tookie Amosun '11 (Gardiner, ME) scooped up 5 groundballs apiece for St. Joe's.

Saint Joseph's was just 2-10 on man-up opportunities, while Mount St. Vincent managed to score on half (3-6) of its man-up possessions. The Monks, who were successful on 21 of 24 clear attempts on Saturday against Bard, weren't nearly as efficient today, as St. Joe's cleared the ball out of their end 9 out of 16 tries.

The Dolphins held the advantage in shots (44-37) and groundballs (57-50) and had fewer turnovers (28-35) in the victory. MSV keeper Mike Nuzzi made 13 saves between the pipes.

For the Monks, the losing deficit against the Dolphins shows a drastic improvement over last year's result, as Mount St. Vincent defeated St. Joe's by a 21-7 margin on April 4th in Portland last spring.

Saint Joseph's will play at Salem State on Tuesday, March 9th at 3:30 PM and will host Emerson College at Deering Memorial Stadium in Portland on Wednesday, March 17th at 4:30 PM.
