Monks Rout Lions, 16-2

PORTLAND, ME – Saint Joseph’s (2-2) defeated Emerson College (0-1), 16-2, in a non-conference men’s lacrosse contest at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening. A pair of freshmen helped lead the Monks to victory, as Dylan Chase (West Newbury, MA) netted three goals and four assists and Spencer Hunt (Jeffersonville, VT) tallied four goals and two helpers in the triumph.

Paul Dolewa ’12 (Saco, ME) added three goals and an assist with seven groundballs and Elliot LaMarre ’11 (Raymond, ME) tallied a goal with a game-high eight groundballs and won 12 of 15 faceoff attempts for Saint Joseph’s. Goalkeeper Christopher Driscoll ’13 (Saco, ME) made eight saves in net.

The Monks controlled play from beginning to end, as the Royal Blue netted five goals in the first period, nine in the second and added one in each of the final two quarters en route to the 16-2 conquest. St. Joe’s held an advantage in shots (36-19), shots on goal (22-10), groundballs (65-30), turnovers (24-32) and faceoff wins (16-4). The Monks were successful on 15 of 19 clearing attempts, while the visiting Lions cleared the ball out of their offensive end 19 times out of 23 attempts.

St. Joe’s scored 15 goals before Emerson got on the board when Zoe Fisk ’13 (Pittston, ME) scored for the Lions with 2:08 remaining in the third quarter. Brian Dorrington ’13 (Billerica, MA) netted the game’s final tally for the Lions with 3:24 left in the contest.

Emerson keeper Braden Campbell ’11 (Northfield, NJ) made six saves in the losing effort, while Fisk paced the visitors with six groundballs.

Tookie Amosun ’11 (Gardiner, ME) added two goals and two assists, while Andrew Moravick ’10 (Biddeford, ME), Alexander Stone ’13 (Lewiston, ME) and Luke LaFreniere ’10 (Alton, NH) all tallied markers in the lopsided win.

On their way to victory, the Monks set new team single-game records in assists (12) and caused turnovers (17) and corralled the second-most groundballs (65) in a contest.

St. Joe’s will host Daniel Webster College at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Saturday at 12:30 PM, while Emerson will play at Becker College on Wednesday, March 24th at 4:00 PM.
