Monks Collect Convincing Conference Win

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (7-6, 3-3 NAC) handled University of Maine-Farmington (1-8, 0-8 NAC), 20-1, in a North Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse contest at Lakeside Field on Wednesday afternoon. Spencer Hunt '13 (Jeffersonville, VT) scored a program-record nine goals for the Monks in the lopsided win.

Dylan Chase '13 (West Newbury, MA) tied a team record with eight assists and added a goal with a game-high nine groundballs against the Beavers and Paul Dolewa '12 (Saco, ME) added four goals and two assists in the conference win. Benson Pasquarello '12 (Kennebunk, ME) and Kody Peckham '11 (West Gardiner, ME) both netted a pair of goals while Elliot LaMarre '11 (Raymond, ME) and Luke LaFreniere '10 (Alton, NH) both registered markers for the Monks.

SJC keeper Marco Stefano '12 (Steep Falls, ME) made eight saves and LaMarre won 10 of 15 face-off attempts with eight groundballs in the triumph. Aside from the two individual game records, St. Joe's set team game records for most assists (15) and shots (73) against UMF.

Despite the lopsided outcome, the Beavers scored the game's first goal led 1-0 for nearly seven minutes to start the game. Patrick Hurley '13 (Goffstown, NH) scored an unassisted marker at the 14:13 mark for the visitors and the Monks failed to answer the score until 6:35 remained in the first quarter.

As it turned out, that SJC goal, which was the first of four straight from Hunt, opened up an avalanche of Monks' goals, as the hosts went on to tally 20 unanswered markers en route to collecting a convincing conference win.

Beavers netminder Matthew Nutter '13 (Swampscott, MA) registered 23 saves, the second-most by an SJC opponent this season, in the losing effort.

St. Joe's held commanding advantages in shots (73-11), groundballs (56-35), face-off wins (19-6) and clear percentage (85%-52%) in the victory.

Saint Joseph's will host NAC rival Castleton State College on Saturday at 1:00 PM, while Maine-Farmington is set to host Thomas College next Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
