Monks Clip Hornets, 8-7

LYNDON CENTER, VT – Saint Joseph's (8-7, 4-4 NAC) defeated Lyndon State College (3-8, 2-6 NAC), 8-7, in a low-scoring North Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse contest on Sunday afternoon. Christopher Driscoll '13 (Saco, ME) made a program-record 23 saves in the Monks' victory.

Benson Pasquarello '12 (Kennebunk, ME) paced the Royal Blue with three goals, while Kody Peckham '11 (West Gardiner, ME) and Luke LaFreniere '10 (Alton, NH) both notched a pair of markers in the conference win.

Spencer Hunt '13 (Jeffersonville, VT) registered two assists and recorded the eventual game-winning goal, a man-up tally, with 9:05 left in regulation. Blake Edwards '11 (Glide, OR) had two assists, including a helper on the game winner.

The Hornets managed to tie the game on pair of occasions, but never attained a lead in losing effort. Josh Arango '13 (Salisbury, MA), who scored three goals to lead the hosts offensively, scored both of the game-tying markers, including a goal at the 13:30 mark of the third quarter to knot the game at five apiece.

St. Joe's went on to score three unanswered goals, as Pasquarello scored two straight and Hunt steered the game-winner into the cage with 9:05 on the clock. The Monks withstood a late flurry by the Hornets, who netted two goals in the final 1:09 of play.

Lyndon State held advantages in shots (40-32), groundballs (44-36) and clear success (89%-60%), while St. Joe's won the face-off battle (12-4) and scored the game's only man-up goal.

Elliot LaMarre '11 (Raymond, ME) was 10-12 on face-off attempts and Edwards corralled a game-high six groundballs in the triumph.

LSC keeper Taylor Stout '13 (Burlington, VT) made 11 saves in goal for the Hornets.

St. Joe's will play at Thomas College on Monday in a NAC contest slated to begin at 4:00 PM, while Lyndon State will travel to Castleton State on Wednesday for a 7:00 PM conference contest.
