Monks Topple Terriers, 13-7

WATERVILLE, ME – Saint Joseph's College (9-7, 5-4 NAC) defeated Thomas College (3-8, 2-6 NAC), 13-7, in a North Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse contest on Tuesday afternoon. Spencer Hunt '13 (Jeffersonville, VT) scored five goals and added four assists in the SJC victory.

Kody Peckham '11 (West Gardiner, ME) tallied five goals and two assists and Blake Edwards '11 (Glide, OR) chipped in with a goal and a helper for St. Joe's. Benson Pasquarello '12 (Kennebunk, ME) and Elliot LaMarre '11 (Raymond, ME) also found the back of the cage for the Monks.

With the nine-point scoring output, Hunt breaks the program's single-season record for points which was held by Jonathan Horgan '12 (Hingham, MA) for less than a year. Horgan, who is out this season with an injury, scored 62 points last spring as a rookie and Hunt, with a regular season game and at least one playoff contest remaining, has 67 points through 15 games this year. Hunt also owns the SJC single-season mark for assists (29) and set the single-game record for shots with 22 in the win over Thomas.

Monks goalkeeper Christopher Driscoll '13 (Saco, ME) notched 14 saves in the win, while his counterpart, Terriers netminder Jesse Morkeski '13 (Damariscotta, ME) made a whopping 23 stops for the hosts. LaMarre won 74% (14-19) of his face-off attempts and collected a game-high 12 groundballs, which ties the program for most in a single game.

Saint Joseph's scored four unanswered goals, with two from Peckham, to start the game and carried a 7-2 cushion into intermission.

Peckham opened the third quarter with two straight scores and Hunt steered a shot past Morkeski to extend the SJC lead to 10-2 with 7:34 left in the third stanza. Thomas answered with three consecutive tallies, with two from Kolby Peckham '11 (West Gardiner, ME), to cut the Monks' lead to 10-5 with 11:23 remaining.

St. Joe's managed to withstand the Terriers' rally bid by outscoring the hosts by a 3-2 margin over the final 10 minutes en route to earning the 13-7 triumph.

St. Joe's held the advantage in shots (60-37) and face-off wins (15-9), while Thomas won the battle for groundballs (58-56) and posted a more efficient clear rate (94%-81%) in the losing effort.

Saint Joseph's will host non-conference opponent Mitchell College, as well as hold a ceremony to honor the program's seniors, on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. Thomas will play at University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
