MONKS INSIDER: Ross Hardaway '11 - Fourth Entry

MONKS INSIDER: Ross Hardaway '11 - Fourth Entry

Monday, 3/14 8:56 AM:

The Monks ventured off to DC to see the White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial and the Smithsonian. Coach Edgar was convinced that someone would get lost so like in kindergarten he made us have a "buddy system". Kyle Hansen and Kody Peckham, "the special k twins", maybe the worst two to put together due to the fact they were the ones we were worried about getting lost/kidnapped. The majority of the team acted like they could push the Washington Monument over. "Are we going see the reflecting pool where Forest Gump was," asked Kody. Tookie replied it is all dried up, joking around, Kody seemed really upset. He thought Tookie was serious, no more than a minute later the reflecting pool was drained and construction was in progress, so much for this joke.

On our way to the Lincoln Memorial we see this little girl sitting on the ground and a squirrel coming right up to her, inches away from her hand. Dave thought it was friendly so he went to pet it and it had no interest in him and scurried away, the girl was looking at Dave with the scariest face ever. While glaring at Dave she was scrunching her nose, eyes wide, and the biggest frown I've ever seen. I was scared for his life for sure. Now that Dave ruined this girl's day, we continued to walk and saw a State Trooper on a horse - of course the Maine kids want a picture with him.

Let me just say we didn't have this planned out too well, we saw a hot dog cart but wanted some other food. We walked for like thirty five minutes... in a circle... we settled for a hot dog cart. After we ate we realized it was the same one from thirty five minutes ago.

Trains, Maine kids on a train what an experience, the pictures we have are priceless to say the least. Everyone was tired and sore, especially Bobby who fell asleep on the platform waiting for our train. Joking around and chasing people it's like they were kids all over again, Edgar couldn't help but laugh. FLANTASTIC in the words of Flanagan explains it all.

Now comes Big B, back from DC, he spotted his victim... Dom. Let's just say I can't write it because it was too funny and you had to be there...he won't leave his computer, wallet, sticks and toilet alone ever again, I hope.

52 in DC and 34 in Standish...Frostburg State today...

One last thing - Big B bought a Bush Cheney hat…

Sunday 3/13 9:13 AM:

Dizzy Drizzy (Christopher Driscoll) decided to visit our room (Sopo Joe, Big B, Greatorex and myself) to use the bathroom...not impressed. Big B decided that his first victim would be Drizzy; he took my spool of sidewall and tied the handle to the other along with making a trip wire. Needless to say we hear him fighting with the door ten minutes later. Who will the next victim be??

Daylight savings - not a fan losing an hour of sleep but waking up to a bright sunrise and not seeing a cloud in the sky - not bad.

Blake joins me at breakfast and was complaining that Kody is a terrible bedmate/cuddler because his club hand kept getting in the way. Coach Murphy came in to the dining room with a look of disgust and all he said was "(Coach) Gerrity is dead", I'm assuming he snores loud and Murph may shoot him.

Mr. Connolly told me an event he witnessed yesterday: Girl Fight he called it. He watched Tookie and Blake walking and all of a sudden one punched the other and ran, sounds like a game we all played in middle school (tag, punch version). He continued by saying it continued all over the hotel until Tookie was out of breath and tired of Blake beating him up. I told Mr. Connolly this is an everyday event at our suite as well.

All this info before 9am. I can imagine what's in store when we travel into DC today. Will Big B find a victim? Will Tookie be chased unexpectedly by Blake? Will Drizzy ever use a bathroom again? Is Gerrity still among the living? Stay tuned!

DC: 54 degrees...Standish: 36 degrees

Saturday, 3/12 7:03 PM:

Mid-morning the Monks went helmets and gloves on a patch of grass along with mutant size gopher holes, which was beyond epic to see Wenkus trying to save a ball from going down the hole. While walking to the hotel we saw a hawk flying over our practice, definitely an impressive site.  It is dusk in DC, pretty decent sight from our hotel - yellow and orange ripping through clouds.

We return to the hotel a bit somber about our performance against Hood (15 to 3 setback).  It took fifteen minutes before we were laughing and trying to be upbeat. Big B (Bryan Johnson) complaining about his stuff smelling too bad, but in classic Big B fashion he is walking around with a Charlie Sheen "winning" shirt. Kyle is dealing with the loss by listening to "achy breaky heart", God help us.  Practical jokes are about to begin... along with a trip/adventure for food.

Special thanks to the local fan Juris – an old friend of Coach Edgar along with a coach of Lambert and Ahmed.  Lambert's for post game food, Papa Chach the superfan, along with the Timmin's (supporting J Maggs), Commin's, Connolly's and Driscoll's for driving down here and support our team.

Saturday, 3/12 9:05 AM:

On a rainy Friday, we Monks took off to Washington DC to play Hood and Frostburg. Best part of the day was seeing Tookie, Chachi (Horgan), Elliot, Benson, Blake and Kody in their make shift "man cave". College architects I'd say, using blankets to close off the back of the bus. This group was sharing a tradition with the freshmen; Zach, Andy and Jake. They seemed shocked by Tookie's antics but they don't surprise anyone else. For a 12 hour ride it seemed short, watching movies and periodically stopping for massive amounts of gas ($344.05 for 90 gallons: culture shock for sure) for this oversized cab that we are calling home.

All said and done today is game day against Hood...62 degrees and loving every minute of it.
