Monks Topple Terriers, 13-3

PORTLAND, ME – Saint Joseph's (3-1) defeated Thomas College (0-1), 13-3, in a non-conference men's lacrosse tilt at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening. Monks sophomore Spencer Hunt (Jeffersonville, VT) netted five goals and added an assist in the one-sided triumph.

St. Joe's held a 7-1 lead heading into intermission and registered six unanswered markers in the second half before the Terriers capped the contest with a pair of scores in the final three minutes of play.

For the Monks, Jake Ricciardi '14 (Sharon, MA) recorded three goals and an assist, Zachary Chaisson '14 (Concord, NH) tallied two goals and two assists, and Ahmed Dorghoud '14 (Woodbridge, VA) won eight of 11 face-off attempts with a team-high eight ground balls.

Michael Greatorex '13 (Gorham, ME), Benson Pasquarello '12 (Kennebunk, ME) and Tookie Amosun '11 (Gardiner, ME) all added a goal and netminder Christopher Driscoll '13 (Saco, ME) made 11 stops between the pipes in the SJC win.

Driscoll is off to an outstanding start this spring. The sophomore keeper has a .660 save percentage (35 saves, 18 goals against) with a 6.00 goals against average through three contests.

Matt Quesada '14 (Coram, NY), Jeffrey Morse '14 (Westbrook, ME) and Bradley Stiles '14 (Westbrook, ME) accounted for the Thomas total with a goal apiece and Terriers goalkeeper Jesse Morkeski '13 (Damariscotta, ME) had 13 saves in a losing effort.

The Monks held advantages in ground balls (47-37) and face-off wins (12-7) and posted a 17-20 effort on clear attempts on the afternoon.

Neither team was able to muster a man-up goal, as St. Joe's was 0-11 and Thomas went 0-6 in man advantage situations.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-2 in the history of the series with Thomas College. The Monks are off to a 3-1 start first time in the program's four-year history.

St. Joe's will play at Hood College (2:30 PM) on Saturday in the first of two games during a trip to Maryland. Thomas plays at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
