Monks Swat Hornets, 21-5

PORTLAND, ME – Spencer Hunt '13 (Jeffersonville, VT) netted five goals and Benson Pasquarello '12 (Kennebunk, ME) added four goals an assist to help lift Saint Joseph's (3-3) past Lyndon State (0-2), 21-5, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

St. Joe's set the pace early as the Monks tallied five unanswered goals in the opening four minutes and carried a commanding 12-1 cushion into intermission. Hunt scored three goals in the first quarter alone.

For the Royal Blue, Jonathan Horgan '12 (Hingham, MA) registered three goals and three assists, Paul Dolewa '12 (Saco, ME) added two goals and three assists, Jake Ricciardi '14 (Sharon, MA) tallied three goals and an assist, and Ben Adams '13 (Lewiston, ME) chipped in with two goals on the afternoon.

Elliot LaMarre '11 (Raymond, ME) played a pivotal role in the SJC win with a career-high 20 face-off wins, in 22 attempts, and a game-high 11 ground balls. Monks goalkeeper Christopher Driscoll '13 (Saco, ME) made eight saves in net.

For the Hornets, Dan Randall '14 (Delmar, NY) scored two goals and netminder Matt Reynolds '14 (New Fairfield, CT) recorded 15 saves and added a team-high eight ground balls. Luke Norman-Lacroix '12 (Barre, VT) and Max Ercole '12 (St. Johnsbury, VT) both corralled seven ground balls in a losing effort.

Saint Joseph's broke the program single-game mark with six man-up goals in the triumph and LaMarre's effort in the face-off circle (22 wins) is tied for the second-highest total in team history.

The Monks neared team-record totals in several statistical categories in the blowout win. The goal and ground ball (62) tallies both rank as the third-highest single-game totals in team history.

Saint Joseph's will host Maine-Farmington at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday at 4:45 PM, while Lyndon State will play at Mitchell College next Saturday at 12:00 PM.
