2012 Men's Lacrosse Team Captains Announced

STANDISH, ME – The 2012 SJC men's lacrosse team captains have been announced by fifth-year Head Coach Mike Edgar.

Seniors Paul Dolewa (Saco, Maine), Jonathan Horgan (Hingham, Mass.) and Kody Peckham (West Gardiner, Maine) and junior Joseph Connolly (Portland, Maine/South Portland) will serve as extensions of the Monks' coaching staff this spring.

Dolewa and Horgan also served as captains last spring while Peckham and Connolly will take on leadership roles for the first time as members of the SJC lacrosse program.

Dolewa posted a fine junior campaign with a team-record 12 man-up goals to go with 24 total goals and 13 assists for 37 points while participating in all 18 games. Going into the 2012 campaign he ranked as the Monks' all-time leader in goals (84), shots (399), shots on goal (200), man-up goals (20) and penalties (47) and also sits second in points (122) and ground balls (159).

Horgan became the first SJC men's lacrosse player to garner First Team All-Conference honors after registering 24 goals and a team-high 30 assists for 54 total points along with 42 ground balls as a junior. Even though he missed essentially the entire 2010 season with an injury, Horgan headed into this spring ranking second in team history in assists (47) and third in both goals (70) and points (117).

Peckham, who scored the first goal in men's lacrosse program history in a loss to Southern Maine on March 10th, 2008, will also assume captaincy duties after missing the 2011 season with an injury. He entered his final collegiate campaign ranked fourth in the team annals in career goals (61), assists (25) and points (86) and expects to cap his college career with his finest season to date.

Connolly, a defender, recorded 26 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers while starting all 18 contests for the 10-8 Monks last spring. A leader on and off the field, expect this 6'2, 200-pound defender to be a force on the Monks' backline this spring.
