Dorghoud Plays for a Great Cause

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College senior men's lacrosse midfielder Ahmed Dorghoud (Alexandria, Va.) participated in the Second Annual Shootout for Soldiers lacrosse game on Thursday, June 13th.

The Shootout for Soldiers event is a 24-hour lacrosse game that benefits the Wounded Warrior Project by raising awareness and enlisting the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, and honoring and empowering Wounded Warriors during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life.

Participants play during a particular time slot for either of the two teams – Stars or Stripes – with fellow participants roughly their same age and skill. Through the common bond of lacrosse, the goal is to raise significant funds for wounded American soldiers as well as establish a stronger connection with local veterans.

Dorghoud, a member of the Marine Corps Reserve for the last eight and a half years, played in the 9:00 AM game with 30 other veterans from the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. An infantryman, Dorghoud is currently serving at Bravo Company, 4th LAR Battalion out of Fredrick, Maryland for his drill weekends. He has served a pair of combat tours – one in Iraq in 2006 and another in Afghanistan in 2009.

A Criminal Justice major at Saint Joseph's, Dorghoud has played in 47 games with three goals, 108 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and 216 face-off victories during three seasons with the men's lacrosse team.

Dorghoud plans to complete his degree, and his collegiate lacrosse career, next spring.
