Monks Make Program History in 18-3 Win Over Maine-Farmington

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) defeated University of Maine-Farmington (0-3, 0-0 NAC), 17-3, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Monday afternoon. Senior midfielder Dalton Eldridge (South Gardiner, Maine) tallied three goals, three assists and seven ground balls in the one-sided victory.

Freshman attack Patrick Hills (Colchester, Conn.) scored his first three collegiate goals to help the Monks secure a 10-0 lead with 3:55 remaining in the second quarter as the hosts held an 11-1 cushion heading into intermission. Saint Joseph's netted seven-unanswered goals in the third quarter en route to earning an 18-1 lead and Maine-Farmington scored twice in the fourth to account for the 18-3 final.

Senior midfielder Brandon Boutin (Hackettstown, N.J.) made team history when he scored with 8:53 remaining in the third quarter, as the marker counted as the 1,000th goal in the eight-year history of the Saint Joseph's College Men's Lacrosse program. Kody Peckham '12 recorded the program's first goal in the team's first-ever NCAA DIII varsity contest, a 15-4 loss to University of Southern Maine on March 10th, 2008.

In totality, 10 different SJC players found the scoring ledger in the triumph, as Boutin scored three times, freshman Brendan Barrett (East Sandwich, Mass.) tallied two goals, four assists and five ground balls, and junior Jake O'Brien (Andover, Mass.) added two goals and a pair of helpers. Senior Brad Loomis (Saunderstown, R.I.) and sophomore Mark LaPierre (Wayland, Mass.) also scored while freshmen Matt Donnell (Watertown, Mass.), Dom Dirupo (Wilmington, Mass.) and Joe O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) chipped in with goals on the afternoon.

Freshmen keepers Connor Trainer (Franklin, Mass.) and Wyatt Porter (Pittsfield, Mass.) shared time in goal for the Royal Blue, with the formers making four saves in 45 minutes and the latter registering one stop in 15 minutes between the pipes.

For the Beavers, junior attack Nathan Chase (Wells, Maine) scored twice and junior midfielder Cameron McAllister (Yarmouth, Maine) potted one goal in the losing bid. Junior defender Connor Joy added a team-high five ground balls and senior Zack Rowland (Fryeburg, Maine) won 13 of 20 face-off attempts for the visitors.

Sophomore goalie Joseph Maldonado (Fresno, Calif.) made 11 saves in 45 minutes while second-year Ronie Morales (Houston, Texas) added four saves while logging 15 minutes in the cage.

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0 in the history of the series with University of Maine-Farmington.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Wednesday with a home contest at Deering Memorial Stadium versus Thomas College. Opening face-off is slated for 4:00 PM.
