Emmanuel Gets Past Saint Joseph's, 6-2

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior goalie Austin Rosenberg (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) stopped 17 shots to shut down the Saint Joseph's College offensive unit in a 6-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory for EC on Tuesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints improve to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play while the loss moves the Monks to 3-5 and 1-1.

In a slow first quarter, Saint Joseph's found the back of the net for the period's only goal coming with just 1:23 left in the frame on sophomore Michael Finn's (Quincy, Mass.) team-leading 23rd goal of the year to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Emmanuel would go on to score six unanswered goals and play stellar defense fueled by Rosenberg's prowess between the pipes to pick up its first conference win of the year.

Senior Sean Reilly (Deer Park, N.Y.) evened the score at 1-1 with his fifth goal of the year before senior Donnie Litzelman (Stratham, N.H.) gave Emmanuel the lead for good later in the second quarter to make it a 2-1 game. The score would hold heading into halftime as EC outshot the Monks 28-15 at the break.

Just 1:54 into the third quarter junior Ben Hartig-Orr (Reading, Vt.) made it a 3-1 game with his fifth tally of the campaign and then with 5:08 left in the period, junior Charlie Moran (Maitland, Fla.) converted a man-up score to extend the lead to 4-1.

Sophomore William Barrs (Waterford, Conn.) and Litzelman added fourth quarter goals to bump the lead to 6-1 before Saint Joseph's sophomore Dan Cunningham (West Islip, N.Y.) capped the game's scoring with his fifth goal of the season with just 38 seconds remaining to account for the 6-2 final.

EC junior middie Michael Sousa (Cranston, R.I.) was great on the face-off for the Saints winning 11 of 12 restarts to go along with 10 groundballs.

Monks junior goalie Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) played well in defeat making 15 saves in net for SJM and falls to 3-3 on the year.

Emmanuel returns to action this Saturday, April 8 when they host Johnson & Wales University at 12:00 PM. Saint Joseph's is back on Thursday, April 6 when they travel to Regis College for a 7:00 PM non-conference affair.
