Lasers Shoot Past Monks, 13-4

PORTLAND, Maine – Lasell College (9-3, 6-0 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (4-8, 2-4 GNAC), 13-4, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lasers opened the game with six unanswered goals, with three apiece from senior Josh Gallant (Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.), before the Monks found the board with a Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) man-up marker 52 seconds before the break.

Madden capped his goals output with a pair in the third quarter, a 15 minute span during which Lasell posted a 5-1 scoring margin en route to holding an 11-2 cushion going into the final frame.

Junior Matt Donnell (Watertown, Mass.) and Finn both scored for the Monks in the fourth quarter.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's junior Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) made 15 saves and picked up three ground balls in a losing effort while Lasell senior netminder Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) turned away 13 of the 17 shots he faced to help his team remain undefeated in conference play.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Finn netted a pair of goals with a pair of ground balls
  • Donnell scored twice
  • Junior Brendan Barrett (East Sandwich, Mass.) was credited with a pair of assists
  • Junior defender Liam Skinner (Irving, Texas) picked up two ground balls and caused five turnovers

LEADERS – LASELL:

  • Madden tallied five goals, four assists, four ground balls, and a caused turnover
  • Gallant scored four goals with three ground balls
  • Junior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) tallied a goal and an assist with five ground balls
  • Senior Pete Dolan (Pearl River, N.Y.) corralled eight ground balls and won 10 of 16 face-off attempts

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 0-7 in the history of the series with Lasell College.

Saint Joseph's hosts Johnson & Wales University Saturday in a 1:00 PM start while Lasell is off until next Tuesday when the Lasers play at Emmanuel College in a 7:00 PM opening face-off.
