BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Mass.-Maritime (1-1) outscored Saint Joseph's College (1-4) by a 4-1 margin in the fourth quarter en route to posting an 11-8 victory in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Buccaneers held a 4-1 lead after sophomore Benjamin Barattini (Osterville, Mass.) potted an unassisted goal 2:30 into the second quarter, but the Monks responded with four unanswered tallies and held a 5-4 edge after junior Dan Cunningham (West Islip, N.Y.) netted his fifth marker of the season with 13:32 remaining in the third frame.

The New England foes proceeded to swap scores for the remainder of the third quarter and the game stood at a 7-7 stalemate after junior Luigi Grimaldi (Portland, Maine) scored his second goal of the game as time expired in the penultimate period.

The Buccaneers went on to put the game away with four-consecutive goals in the fourth quarter, with Cody Livermore netting what proved to be the game-winner with 12:01 left in the contest. The Monks applied pressure late and junior Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) hit pay dirt with a man-up marker with 34 seconds left to account for the 11-8 final.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior goalie Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) played well with 15 saves in a losing effort. Sophomore keeper Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) registered 11 stops in the victory.

TEAM STATS:

Mass.-Maritime held an advantage in shots (39-31) and ground balls (33-25) while Saint Joseph's posted a 12-10 edge in face off victories. The Monks committed 26 turnovers, went 2-5 in man-up situations, and cleared successfully on nine of 17 attempts. The Buccaneers turned the ball over 20 times, were 0-5 in man-up opportunities, and cleared their defensive end on 17 of 23 chances.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

• Finn scored three goals with an assist and three ground balls
• Grimaldi added two goals
• Cunningham produced a goal and an assist
• Senior defender Liam Skinner (Irving, Texas) picked up five ground balls with three caused turnovers and an assist
• Sophomore Shane Fors (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was 12-22 on face-off attempts and notched four ground balls

LEADERS – MASS.-MARITIME:

• Livermore scored three goals with a pair of assists
• Junior Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) tallied two goals and two assists
• Sophomore Edward Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) netted a pair of goals
• Freshman Michael Sharry (Braintree, Mass.) won 10 of 22 face-off bids

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 0-4 in the history of the series with Mass.-Maritime.

Saint Joseph's will host Thomas College on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. The contest will be the team's first at the SJC Athletics Complex.
