STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced its weekly honors and Saint Joseph's Men's Soccer standouts Doug MacCallum '10 (Hingham, MA) and Will Pike '10 (Gorham, ME) have garnered Player and Goalkeeper of the Week awards, respectively.
MacCallum scored three goals with an assist in a 2-0 week for the Monks, including the game-winner over JWU in a conference quarterfinal victory 10/31. The senior forward tallied a goal and an assist against Rivier 10/28 and a pair of goals against the Wildcats in the playoff opener. For MacCallum, the weekly honor is his second of the season.
Through November 2nd, MacCallum leads the GNAC in game-winners (7), ranks second in goals (12) and third in points (27). He also holds the SJC program record for career goals (38), points (87), game winners (13), shots (176), shot percentage (.216) and games played (78).
Pike turned away five shots and did not allow a goal in a 2-0 week for the Monks. The senior keeper lowered his season GAA to 0.80 and picked up his 10th and 11th shutouts of the year in the process. Pike, a GNAC First Team All-Conference honoree last fall, has been the conference keeper of the week five times this fall.
Pike has established himself as the top keeper in the GNAC and one of the best in the New England Region. Through November 2nd, he led the conference in goals-against average (0.80), save percentage (.868) and shutouts (11) and ranked second in the league in saves (105). His GAA and SV% numbers both rank in the top ten in the region. Pike, who is in his second year with the Monks after transferring from DI Mount St. Mary's, already holds the program career records for shutouts (19) and is on pace to shatter the marks for GAA (0.85) and SV% (.867).
St. Joe's (12-7-1, 7-2 GNAC), the top seed for the GNAC Tournament, will host #4 Norwich (10-6-2, 5-3-1 GNAC) in a conference semifinal, and rematch of last season's finale, on Tuesday, November 3rd at 1:00 PM. The Monks topped the Cadets, 1-0, earlier this season.
