AUGUSTA, ME - The Monks Men's Soccer team made a trip to the Maine Capitol Building on Thursday and received recognition for winning the 2009 GNAC Championship last fall.
St. Joe's players and coaches were given a tour of the capitol and were acknowledged by the State Representatives and Senate for capturing the team's first conference crown since the 2000 campaign. Team members also met with Governor John Baldacci and Senator Bill Diamond.
Last fall, Saint Joseph's went 14-8-1 overall and posted a 7-2 record in conference play en route to earning the #1 seed in the GNAC Tournament. The Monks defeated Emerson College, 2-1, in the conference title game and advanced to the NCAA DIII Tournament for the first time in program history in 2009.
