Rams Snub Monks, 2-1

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (6-8-2, 3-4-1 GNAC) suffered a 2-1 loss to GNAC rival Suffolk University (8-6-1, 5-2-1 GNAC) in a men's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Wednesday afternoon. Monks netminder Nick Campasano '12 (Goffstown, NH) made eight saves in the losing effort.

Tyler Rand '13 (Westbrook, ME) scored his first Saint Joseph's goal and opened the game scoring in the 22nd minute, but the 1-0 lead wouldn't last long as Suffolk midfielder Nick Cugine '12 (Ridgefield, CT) knotted the game with a goal, which was driven to the upper left corner off an indirect kick, just eight minutes later. After 35 minutes of scoreless play, Rams forward Ben Rollins '13 (Lee, NH) netted the game-winner with a header off a loose ball in front of the SJC net.

Saint Joseph's controlled play in the early going and the effort paid off with Rand's marker, which was scored off a crossing pass from Teddy Palmer '14 (Scarborough, ME). Palmer registered a pair of opportunities to tie the contest late in the game, but a 79th-minute attempt sailed wide and his 84th-minute shot was lifted over the crossbar.

Brandon Noltkamper '11 (Bath, ME) took a corner kick with 2:33 remaining, but the Rams' defensive effort did not allow a shot attempt on the play.

Suffolk held advantages in shots (15-12) and shots on goal (10-5), while Saint Joseph's carried a 5-3 edge in corner kicks in the GNAC setback. Rams keeper Matt Esposito '14 (Wallingford, CT) posted four stops in net.

With the loss, St. Joe's falls to 1-3 in the history of the series against Suffolk.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC match set to begin at 1:00 PM, while Suffolk will take on Norwich in Northfield, VT in the Rams' regular-season finale on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
