2011 Men's Soccer Team Captains Announced

STANDISH, ME – SJC Men's Soccer Head Coach Steve Babineau has announced his team captains for the 2011 season.

Saint Joseph's will feature a pair of captains next fall, when the Monks will look to return to form as one of the top programs in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Mike Sanfilippo '12 (Walpole, MA) will resume his role as a team captain for the second consecutive season as a senior in 2011. The athletic midfielder has played in 62 games, with 59 starts, over three seasons and earned Third Team All-GNAC honors as a member of the 2008 GNAC Championship team.

"'Po' continues his role as captain with his strong commitment to this program," adds Coach Babineau. "He leads on and off the field. His teammates respect his abilities and we are lucky to have him back as one of our leaders."

Another rising senior, midfielder Jesse West (Sheldon, VT), will also serve as an extension of the Monks' coaching staff next fall. A fleet-afoot player with a strong work ethic, West netted three goals in 2010 and has six goals, three assists and 15 total points in 56 career games.

"Our team and coaching staff have made a very good decision appointing Jesse as captain," says Coach Babineau. "He leads by example on the soccer field and is an excellent student in the classroom. I look forward to seeing him grow as a leader this year."
