Johnson & Wade Honored by Conference

STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and two Saint Joseph's College men's soccer players have earned accolades.

For the reporting period ending October 30, SJC sophomore forward Zach Johnson (Westbrook, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Player of the Week and freshman midfielder Jason Wade (South Hampton, N.H./Amesbury) garners Rookie of the Week honors. The conference top-weekly honor is a first for both players.

Johnson netted two goals, including his GNAC-leading 7th game winner, in a GNAC tourney victory over Suffolk University on Saturday. The Monks' leader with 15 goals this fall, Johnson has been hot down the stretch with 10 goals over the last seven contests.

The second-year transfer is currently tied with Doug MacCallum '10 for the most game-winning goals scored by an SJC player in a single season and his 2011 goals tally is the second-most scored in team history. MacCallum also scored 15 in 2008, one shy of the record netted by Jesse Beer in 2000.

Wade was a key player for the Monks in the 3-0 GNAC quarterfinal victory over Suffolk. Despite the lack of offensive statistics, Wade's presence was felt as the first-year midfielder helped St. Joe's control play in the heart of the field during the triumph.

The freshman mid has tallied one assist this season in 14 games and 13 starts. Wade missed a stretch earlier this season due to an injury.

Saint Joseph's (12-5, 7-3 GNAC), the #2 seed in the conference tourney, will host #6 Emmanuel College (11-5-4, 5-5 GNAC) in a GNAC Tournament Semifinal on Thursday at 2:00 PM.
