Babineau Tabs 2012-13 Team Captains

STANDISH, ME – Men's soccer Head Coach Steve Babineau has announced his team leaders for the 2012-13 year.

The Monks will feature a trio of first-time captains next fall when backs Joe Murphy (Poland, Maine) and Dan McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.) and forward Ross Suleski (Amesbury, Mass./St. Thomas Aquinas) will serve as extensions of the SJC coaching staff both on and off the pitch.

Murphy, who made the transition to the backline as a junior, emerged as one of the top defenders in the conference in his first season at the center back position. He also chipped in offensively with three goals, including game-winners versus Maine-Farmington and Rivier College.

McIntyre started all 20 contests for the Monks last fall and gained recognition as one of the elite defensive players in the GNAC when he claimed Third Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore.

Suleski developed into a top offensive threat during his sophomore season when he tallied three goals and nine assists for 20 total points. He led the team in assists and ranked third on the side in points during a breakout campaign.

Last fall, Saint Joseph's (14-6, 7-3 GNAC) captured the GNAC championship for the second time in three seasons under the watch of Coach Babineau, who is just the second skipper in SJC Athletics history to win two conference crowns in his first three seasons at the helm. Women's basketball Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, who notched Western Maine Athletic Conference championships in 1988 and 1990, was the first to accomplish the feat.
