2013 Men's Soccer Schedule Announced

STANDISH, ME - The 2013 men's soccer schedule has been announced. Saint Joseph's will play 18 contests this fall with a docket that features nine Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilts and nine non-league contests.

Led by fifth-year Head Coach Steve Babineau, the Monks will take on an impressive list on non-conference foes, a slate headlined by games with 2012 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Thomas College, Eastern Connecticut State College and Salve Regina University. The list of other out-of-conference opponents includes Roger Williams University, Maine-Presque Isle, Southern Maine, University of New England, Maine-Farmington and Endicott College.

Saint Joseph's has never before played against Roger Williams or Eastern Connecticut and the Monks have not faced UNE since the 1998 campaign. Overall, the 2013 list of opponents compiled a 164-156-27 (.513) record, collectively, a year ago. The Monks own a 74-83-17 (.471) all-time record versus the 18 teams combined.

The new season kicks off when the Monks play Roger Williams in the Roger Williams / TURFER Soccer Classic on Saturday, August 31st at 11:00 AM. Saint Joseph's hosts Thomas in the side's 2013 home-opener on Wednesday, September 4th at Westerlea Way Field. The match is slated to begin at 4:00 PM.

St. Joe's will also face-off against Southern Maine, UNE, Norwich University, Maine-Farmington, Albertus Magnus, Anna Maria College, Rivier College and Mount Ida College at home this fall.

Saint Joseph's went 10-7-2 overall and 6-3-1 versus conference opponents last season en route to claiming the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament. Sitting with a sub-.500 record in early October, the Monks managed to notch six consecutive victories heading into the postseason, but saw their hopes of a repeat-championship were dashed with a 3-0 loss at the hands of #6 Emerson College in a GNAC Tournament quarterfinal on October 27th.
