Another Regional Award for Shangraw

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's senior midfielder Kyle Shangraw (Westbrook, Maine) has claimed 2013 ECAC Division III New England Men's Soccer First Team All-Star accolades.

Shangraw, a First Team All-Conference and Second Team NSCAA/Continental Tire All-New England North Region honoree, adds the ECAC regional award to his ever-growing trophy case after leading the Monks in goals (13), assists (6), points (32), shots (85), shots on goal (40) and game-winners (6) this fall. One of the elite players in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) this fall, Shangraw closed out the 2013 season ranked second in the conference only to Lasell College senior forward Mike Skelton - who also earned ECAC First Team acclaim - in goals, points, shots and game-winning goals.

Shangraw, who played at Bryant and Stratton Junior College in Syracuse, N.Y. and University of Maine-Orono prior to attending Saint Joseph's, recorded one of the best seasons in SJC men's soccer history this past fall. He currently owns the Monks' single-season shots record while his game-winning goal tally is third all-time and his 2013 points and goals totals both rank as the fifth-most in the 24-year history of the program.

He is one of three GNAC players to earn ECAC All-New England honors this year, joining Lasell's Skelton and O'Kyle Corridon of Johnson & Wales University. Only two other players from Maine institutions were honored, as defender Ben Brewster of Bowdoin College and goalkeeper Aidan McParland of University of New England collected First and Second Team mention, respectively.

Shangraw was also chosen as the GNAC Player of the Week three times and earned ECAC DIII New England Offensive Player of the Week honors on a pair of occasions this past fall. He is the first player in program history to collect either NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region or ECAC All-New England honors and just the seventh SJC athlete in the last nine years to earn First Team All-ECAC honors, joining Luke Enman '08 (Baseball, 2007), Todd Keneborus '11 (Baseball, 2011), Emily Leverone '12 (Softball, 2011), Lindsay Moore '14 (Softball, 2011), Theresa Hendrix '14 (Softball, 2012) and Danyelle Shufelt '13 (Softball, 2013) on the short list.

Saint Joseph's College, 10-8-1 overall and 6-3 in conference play under the watch of fifth-year Head Coach Steve Babineau this fall, earned the #2 seed in the 2013 GNAC Tournament but fell to #7 Albertus Magnus College – the reigning conference champs, 1-0, in a GNAC quarterfinal at Westerlea Way Field on Sunday, November 3rd.
