BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field on day two of 5th Annual Adidas Challenge Cup. With the victory, Saint Joseph's claims the invitational tournament's championship.
The match went scoreless until Saint Joseph's (Maine) (2-1-2) was awarded a corner kick in the 55th minute. Off the set corner kick play, JoJo Strobino found Brett Mattos for the lone goal of the game.
Jimmy Fitzpatrick and Cooper Antone led the Husson (0-3-1) offense with three shots.
Blake Mullen made four saves for the Monks.
Cody Gross made 12 saves in the loss.
The Monks outshot the Eagles, 23-13.
Gross and Nic Pare were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Saint Joseph's Dalton Gaumer (MVP), JoJo Strobino, Rory Twomey and Brett Mattos, Southern Maine's Kyle Curley, Christopher Pepin and Charlie Mull, and Castleton's Derek Blouin, Aaron Parker and Dallas Desroches.
Husson opens up North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 17th when they host Colby-Sawyer for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff. The Monks host Lyndon State on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. game.
