STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-1-2) edged Lyndon State College (2-1-0), 2-1, in a non-conference men's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Tuesday afternoon.

THE LEAD

Saint Joseph's, which outshot Lyndon State by a 26-7 margin, received goals from senior Nicholas Borowski (Webster, Mass.) and freshman Quaadir Palmer (Trenton, N.J.) and held on to win after Lyndon junior Dylan Cherko (Manchester, Conn.) put the Hornets on the board in the 86th minute.

THE KEEPERS

SJC sophomore Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) faced just three shots and made a pair of saves while Lyndon State Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) registered eight saves in a losing effort.

Taylor delivered a perfect throw-in from the left, finding Borowski in the box and the senior finished the play with a one-time header into the top right corner

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (26-7), shots on goal (10-3), and corner kicks in the victory. Both teams were flagged for seven fouls.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-13 in the history of the series with Lyndon State, a team the Monks defeated by a 4-2 margin in Vermont last fall. The Hornets defeated the Monks in 10-consecutive meetings from 1993 to 2001.

NEXT!

The Monks kick off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday with a 5:30 PM game at Rivier University. Lyndon opens up North Atlantic Conference play Saturday, hosting Maine-Farmington at 12:00 PM.
