NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (10-1-2, 5-0-0 GNAC) blanked Albertus Magnus College (7-4-1, 2-2-1 GNAC), 2-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
THE LEAD
Sophomore Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored both of the Monks' goals in the triumph and sophomore keeper Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) turned away all five shots he faced to collect his eighth shutout of the season and help the Monks extend their program-record undefeated streak to 12 games.
With another shutout win, the Monks have not allowed an opponent to score in the last 745 minutes of play (the Johnson & Wales tally on October 1st was an own goal).
NOTABLES
- Mitchell Cyr (Rochester, N.H.) and Nicholas Borowski (Webster, Mass.) earned credit for assists on the SJC goals, which were scored in the 13th and 58th minutes, respectively
- Mattos posted a match-high six shots with five being on target
- Albertus keeper Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) made seven saves in the losing effort
TEAM STATS
Saint Joseph's held a 12-5 lead in shots and a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal while Albertus Magnus posted a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
With today's win, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-8-0 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College, the same program that couched the Monks' 2015 GNAC Tournament chances by way of a 2-1 overtime result in a quarterfinal contest at Westerlea Way Field last fall.

Both teams resume play Monday with GNAC contests on the road, as Saint Joseph's travels to Anna Maria College for a 2:00 PM kick-off and Albertus Magnus faces off against Rivier University in a 4:00 PM start.
