Saint Joseph’s Shuts Down Anna Maria, 4-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-0-1, 3-0-1 GNAC) toppled Anna Maria College (1-7-1, 0-4-0 GNAC), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Four first-half goals from four different players lifted the Monks to their seventh victory of the season. Senior Trevor Lopes (Cumberland, R.I.) netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 17th minute, when he received a pass from Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine) and launched a tough angle shot from the right to the upper left 90.

Sophomore Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine) scored on a Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) feed in the 30th minute and assisted on a Keenan Welzel (Brunswick, Maine) marker three minutes later. Sophomore Ryan Buonaiuto (Scituate, R.I.) capped the scoring with his second goal of the year, off a Noah Elmore (Berlin, Vt.) pass, in the 44th minute.

THE KEEPERS:

The Monks split time in net, with junior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) making a pair of stops in the first half and third-year Coleman Reifke (Loudon, N.H.) posting one save in the second stanza.

Anna Maria freshman netminder Jeffre Donahue (Rockland, Mass.) tallied 16 saves in a losing effort.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held commanding leads in shots (41-6), shots on goal (20-3), and corner kicks (8-0) on the evening.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's remains undefeated (7-0) in the history of the series with Anna Maria College and has now defeated the AMCATS by a 4-0 score in each of the last three meetings.
