STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College junior defender Dalton Gaumer (Corona, Calif./Temescal Canyon) has been named as a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, as announced by the organization on Thursday night, on the eve of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Soccer Championship semifinals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Gaumer, one of just 10 defenders to be listed on the three 2017 All-America teams, claims the honor a day after collecting United Soccer Coaches First Team All-New England accolades. The leader of a defensive unit that allowed just one goal in 21 games, the team-tri captain helped the Monks register new NCAA Men's Soccer records (all three levels) for lowest goals against average (0.047), longest shutout streak (19 games), and consecutive shutout minutes (1,802:54).

His play was a major factor in the Monks' historic season, during which the team won the GNAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive season. St. Joe's notched the first NCAA tourney win in team history, a 2-1 triumph over Mitchell College in the opening round on Saturday, November 11th, and held defending national champion Tufts University scoreless before falling to the Jumbos – on their home field - in penalty kicks in the second round.

The awards are piling up for the three-year starter, who earlier this fall collected First Team All-Conference accolades for the second year in a row and was chosen as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Year.

Gaumer is the third player in Saint Joseph's men's soccer history to earn All-America status, as he joins former standout goalkeeper Michael Bolanz '99 and Jesse Beer '01 – both NAIA All-America honorees - on the exclusive list. Gaumer is the first Monks' men's soccer player to claim the national honor since Saint Joseph's left the NAIA and became a full time member of the NCAA in the fall of 2003.

Gaumer is among 46 student-athletes in NCAA Division III to receive All-America recognition this season. The All-Americans, along with their families and coaches, will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Luncheon on January 20, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention in downtown Philadelphia.

He is the 41st Saint Joseph's College athlete to garner All-America honors and first since former Monks baseball standout pitcher Chad Rafferty '13 collected a pair of All-America nods in 2012. 

Under the watch of fourth-year Head Coach Adrian Dubois, the Monks capped the 2017 campaign ranked 17th in the D3Soccer.com national poll and sixth in the United Soccer Coaches regional poll and currently lead NCAA DIII Men's Soccer in goals against average (.047), won-lost-tied percentage (.952), and save percentage (.983). Saint Joseph's is also second in the nation in shots per game (22.76) and shots on goal per game (11.57), fifth in assists per game (2.95) and total assists (62), and sixth in points per game (9.33), total goals (67), and total points (196).

Saint Joseph's looks to resume the program's 21-game unbeaten streak when the team begins play next fall.
