STANDISH, Maine – The 2017 D3Soccer.com Men's Soccer All-America teams have been announced and Saint Joseph's College juniors Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) and Dalton Gaumer (Corona, Calif.) have been honored.
Mullen earns D3Soccer.com Second Team All-America accolades after posting a 19-0-2 record with 12 shutouts while setting new NCAA Men's Soccer records for goals against average (0.05) and save percentage (.983) during his junior campaign. The second-year starter allowed just one goal and made 57 saves over 1,796 minutes and broke the NCAA Men's Soccer record with 1,706:09 consecutive minutes of shutout play, besting the previous record (1,428:00) by nearly 300 minutes.
His impressive list of postseason accolades also includes First Team All-GNAC, GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year, New England Soccer Journal (NESJ) Goalkeeper of the Year, NESJ Best XIs First Team, and Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-New England honors.
Gaumer, a Third Team selection, led the Monks to one of the finest defensive seasons in collegiate soccer history, as the junior standout anchored a back line that posted the lowest goals against average (0.047) in NCAA Men's Soccer history while breaking the NCAA records for longest shutout streak (19 games) and consecutive shutout minutes (1,802:54).
One of the most decorated defenders in New England for his play last fall, Gaumer also garnered United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-America, United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region, NESJ Best XIs Second Team, GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-GNAC accolades.
Mullen and Gaumer account for two of the seven slots awarded to players hailing from the New England Region. Also, Saint Joseph's is one of three programs from arguably the nation's most competitive region to have multiple players honored. Brandeis and Tufts also had a pair of players earn accolades.
Ranked 17th and 25th in the final D3Soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches polls of the 2017 season, respectively, the Monks led NCAA DIII in save percentage (.983), goals against average (0.047), shutout percentage (.952), and won-loss-tied percentage (.952) and ranked second nationally in shots per game (22.76) and shots on goal per game (11.57). St. Joe's also ranked fifth in the nation in assists per game (2.95) and total assists (62), sixth in points per game (9.33) and total goals (67), seventh in total points (196), eighth in scoring offense (3.19), and ninth in corner kicks per game (7.29) last fall.
Under the watch of Head Coach Adrian Dubois, Saint Joseph's looks to resume the program's 21-game unbeaten streak when the team begins play next fall.
The D3Soccer.com All-America teams were chosen by D3soccer.com staff, Division III soccer coaches, and sports information directors from a field of nearly 400 nominations. This is the eighth year that D3soccer.com has recognized the top men's and women's players from across the nation.
The three men's All-America teams are comprised of 33 total players representing 21 schools and 14 different conferences. Eight different teams have multiple selections—the highest total in the history of the awards—with national semifinalist Chicago leading the way with four players named.
NCAA DIII Men's Soccer is comprised of 409 programs and roughly 10,000 individual athletes.
