Men’s Soccer Ranked 10th & 16th Nationally, Second in New England

STANDISH, Maine – The second NCAA DIII Men's Soccer polls of the 2018 campaign have been announced and Saint Joseph's College has moved up in all three rankings.

The Monks, 7-0-0 overall and 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play through September 18th, are now 10th and 16th in the D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches national polls – up from 15th and 17th, respectively. Ranked third in last week's United Soccer Coaches regional poll, the Monks have moved up one spot to second in New England.

For the second-consecutive week the Monks, who defeated GNAC foes Rivier and Johnson & Wales to improve to 7-0, received one first-place vote in the D3soccer.com poll and now have 596 points overall. St. Joe's had 438 points in the poll last week.

Tufts University, 5-0-0 overall, is the only New England team to sit ahead of Saint Joseph's in the two national polls as the Jumbos are ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches poll and sixth in the D3soccer.com rankings. Tufts, which defeated Keene State, Bates, and Wheaton last week, sits atop the New England rankings for the second-consecutive week.

Connecticut College, WPI, Amherst College, Williams College, Babson College, Middlebury College, Roger Williams University, and Clark University make up the remainder of the top 10 New England programs in the United Soccer Coaches Regional Poll.

Through seven contests, Saint Joseph's has outscored foes by a combined 24-1 score with a 138-32 shots advantage. After posting a 19-0-2 record in 2017, the Monks have extended their undefeated streak to 28 games with the 7-0 start this fall.

Saint Joseph's allowed a goal in the victory (3-1) over Johnson & Wales on Saturday, the first tally allowed by the Monks since the 73rd minute of a 2-1 win over Mitchell College in the NCAA Tournament on November 11th, 2017. The JWU goal ended a 678:26 minute shutout streak for SJC, which set an NCAA Men's Soccer record with 1,802:54 consecutive shutout minutes during the 2017 season.

One of 19 teams across the country without a loss, Saint Joseph's currently ranks third in NCAA DIII Men's Soccer in shutout percentage (.857), fourth in goals against average (.143), seventh in save percentage (.933), and ninth in goals (24).

Saint Joseph's will host GNAC-rival Suffolk University tomorrow in a 6:00 PM start.
