STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's soccer team is ranked ninth and 15th in the latest D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches national polls, respectively, and third in the most recent United Soccer Coaches regional rankings.
After blanking Suffolk University (5-0) and Regis College (4-0) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play last week, the Monks move up one spot in both of the national polls and fall one slot in the regional ranking.
Saint Joseph's, 9-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play through September 25th, received one first-place vote and 652 total points in the fourth D3soccer.com national poll. University of Chicago is ranked first with 970 points.
In the third United Soccer Coaches national poll Messiah College is the #1 team and the Monks fall to third in the regional rankings behind Tufts University and Connecticut College.
Tufts, 6-0-0 overall, is the only New England team to sit ahead of Saint Joseph's in the two national polls as the Jumbos are ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches poll and fifth in the D3soccer.com rankings. Tufts, which defeated regional-rival Brandeis University last week, sits atop the New England rankings for the third-consecutive week.
Roger Williams University, WPI, Williams College, Babson College, Bates College, Middlebury College, and Amherst College make up the remainder of the top 10 New England programs in the United Soccer Coaches Regional Poll.
Through nine games, Saint Joseph's has outscored opponents by a collective 33-1 score with a 193-42 shots advantage. After posting a 19-0-2 record in 2017, the Monks have extended their undefeated streak to 30 games, which marks the 14th time in the history of NCAA DIII Men's Soccer that a team has posted such a streak of 30 or more contests and first since Rutgers-Camden went 37 matches without a setback during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The NCAA DIII Men's Soccer record for longest undefeated streak is held by Wheaton (IL), which went 66 games without a loss from September of 1996 to November of 1998.
One of 11 teams across the country without a loss, Saint Joseph's currently ranks third in NCAA DIII Men's Soccer in shutout percentage (.889), third in goals against average (.111), fourth in save percentage (.941), seventh in goals (33), and ninth in points (89).
Saint Joseph's will host Colby-Sawyer College tomorrow in a GNAC game slated to start at 6:00 PM.
