STANDISH, Maine – The fifth D3soccer.com national poll of the 2018 season has been released and Saint Joseph's College is now ranked sixth in the country. Also, for the second consecutive week, the Monks are ranked third in New England and 15th nationally in the United Soccer Coaches weekly polls.
Saint Joseph's, ranked ninth in the fourth D3soccer.com poll, moves up three spots after posting a 4-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in the team's only contest last week. Through October 1st, the Monks are 10-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
St. Joe's, led by fifth-year Head Coach Adrian Dubois, received one first-place vote and 758 total points in the D3soccer.com national poll. For the second-consecutive week, University of Chicago is ranked first with 985 points and 17 first-place votes. Tufts University, 9-0-0 so far this fall, is ranked fourth and is the only New England Region team to sit ahead of the Monks in this week's D3soccer.com poll.
In the fourth United Soccer Coaches national poll, Messiah College is the #1 team for the second week in a row. The Monks remain third in the regional rankings behind Tufts University and Connecticut College.
Roger Williams University, Williams College, Middlebury College, WPI, Amherst College, Bates College, and Eastern Connecticut State University make up the remainder of the top 10 New England programs in the United Soccer Coaches Regional Poll.
Through 10 games, Saint Joseph's has outscored opponents by a collective 37-1 score with a 217-42 shots advantage. After posting a 19-0-2 record in 2017, the Monks have extended their undefeated streak to 31 games, the longest active streak in NCAA DIII Men's Soccer and the 14th streak of 30 or more all-time. The last time a team posted an undefeated streak of 30 or more games was Rutgers-Camden, which went 37 matches without a setback during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The NCAA DIII Men's Soccer record for longest undefeated streak is held by Wheaton (IL), which went 66 games without a loss from September of 1996 to November of 1998.
One of six teams across the country without a loss, Saint Joseph's currently ranks second in NCAA DIII Men's Soccer in shutout percentage (.900), and goals against average (.100), third in save percentage (.941), eighth in points per game (10.20), scoring offense (3.70), and goals (37), ninth in shots per game (21.70), total assists (28), and total points (102), and 10th in assists per game (2.80).
Saint Joseph's will host Emmanuel College tonight in a GNAC game slated to start at 6:00 PM.
