STANDISH, Maine – The United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards have been announced and Saint Joseph's College is one of 293 men's programs to earn recognition for excellence in the classroom.
To qualify for the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 academic year, a team must have recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Monks posted a collective 3.26 GPA last year en route to claiming the academic accolade for the first time in program history.
It should come as no surprise that the Monks earned the national academic honor, as 12 Saint Joseph's players posted a GPA of 3.25 or higher and claimed Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Academic acclaim last year, as announced by the GNAC in June. Mitchell Cyr (Rochester, N.H.), Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine), Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine), Brennan Goodrich (Essex Junction, Vt.), Ryan Guidaboni (Nashua, N.H.), Justin Karageorge (North Smithfield, R.I.), Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.), Jesse Ramirez (Dumont, N.J.), Coleman Reifke (Loudon, N.H.), Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), Nicholas Seta (Hampton, N.H.), and Keenan Welzel (Brunswick, Maine) all earned the conference academic award.
Saint Joseph's, ranked sixth and 15th in the latest D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches national polls, respectively, head into the sixth week of the 2018 season with a perfect 12-0-0 record, including an 8-0-0 mark in GNAC play. The Monks face perhaps their biggest test of the season Wednesday when they travel to Norwich University for a 7:00 PM start.
